hard shell over puffy

I'll be picking up a chamberlin in the near future in size M. What size shell should I run over the top for wind blocker/rain protection? Can i get away with a M, or will I need to size up? My concern is going too big on the shell since i will most likely be wearing the puffy in extreme cold or while early/late glassing. Id hate to be drowning during the day.

First Lite runs big anyways, I would personally just stick with M

Maybe some of these size references help...
I wear a Medium FL Seak as a shell and it fits great. Just enough room to put over the top of a size Large Sitka Kelvin active, which I do quite a bit. Its a comfy combination. But I tried wearing the Seak over a size Medium Lost park parka and it was too tight. It could be done but was too tight for comfort.
