My FIL - I miss him. Forward artillery observer, landed second wave at Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinowa where he was finally wounded on day four of the battle from mortar shrapnel. He saw too much horror as a young man, and carried it with him his whole life. But he always maintained a wonderful sense of humor, and positive attitude... RIP.

Used to take an old Marine fishing that chewed some of the same dirt. Incredible man.

I got off the Essex in Jan 09, also got to hit Australia and it was epic! Semper Fi.
