What are you guys using to hang food? I have not had to worry about bears until this year. Do you just use a dry bag or stuff sack? Still trying to decide on taking bear spray or not. The only handgun I have is a .40 so not sure if that is worth taking.

mine are just cheap Outdoor Products bags. We pack camp in a couple weeks early(in fact going in saturday)!because we are staying in 9 days. you might want to investigate something lighter and more packable if you are simply hanging food and not making a cache.

I used a 20L Sea To Summit roll top dry bag last year for hanging my food. Worked pretty well, and they're really lightweight.

20-35L sea to summit dry bags. Use a 2 carabiner pulley system at base camp. Toss heavy carabiner with para cord over tree limb. Pass cord through carabiner. Pass second line with carabiner through 1st carabiner. Pull up first line and tie off. Tie loop in 2nd cord to prevent slip through when not in use. Makes it easier to hang heavy food bags. I started this rig 7-8 years ago after the single cord I was using froze to the tree and my food got stuck until it thawed. A little extra weight but convenient for a backcountry spike camp.

You know, I was trying to find the video to this method on "backcountry college" youtube channel yesterday. Thanks for the explanation.
