Hanging food in NM

First time hunting New Mexico this year. What’s everyone’s thoughts on hanging food there?

Yes, hang food and garbage (anything with food smells) anywhere black bears, and coyotes are present. They aren't likely to bother you while you are there, but coming back to a destroyed camp isn't fun. Coyotes aren't nearly as bad, but they are scavengers and they will do what it takes to get a treat.

I am making the assumption you are tenting it and not in a trailer.

I try to hang mine 50-75 yards from my tent. Not even a crum in or around my tent. Empty MH bags get hung as well, and packed out.

Hunted NM 3 times. Burned trash nightly at campfire and didnt hang anything. Never had a problem. But, there are plenty of bears in NM for sure.
