I’ve got an early November Mule deer hunt in the southern half of the state. Is it necessary to hang food away from camp? I’ll be moving camp every day.

Unit 15. Yes. Saw 2 bears in 1 week and found fresh scat hiking back to camp. Absolutely still out. There are a lot more bears in New mexico then most people realize. A few years ago I woke up in back of my truck bed in sugarite state park to a bear straddling my freezer and the lid he had opened. There was not a damned thing in there. He busted the hinges on the lid standing on it.

both times I’ve hunted in southern NM I’ve hung my food away from camp. First trip we saw bears, second trip I saw sign but no actual animals. It’s easy enough to just do it in my opinion.

Depends on which unit honestly. The more remote areas that don't get a lot of weekend traffic (Gila, Cibola) they have a pretty healthy fear of humans. Less so in the high traffic forests (Lincoln, Santa Fe).

I never have and probably never will. Especially in November the hounds have put the fear of man in them.

I've seen bears and quite a bit of sign in unit 45 in early October and late September. Heard something growl at our horses and mules one night and never did figure out what it was.

The Gila? I would. Serious bear overpopulation issues in the Gila. And they will go after your food and water. And your kill......

Not likely necessary in November. I archery hunted 36 in September and had about a dozen bears inside 40 yards and never once thought it necessary to hang my food. I did change camp location each night by a significant amount. If I were to have stayed in the same camp for more than 1 night, I probably would. My .02

Random, and I apologize for replying to this as I’m new to Rokslide, but I am interested in your factory 6.5prc barrel you have listed in the classifieds lol. Just don’t have the post/account history long enough to PM you or reply to your classified.

Hope I’m not breaking any rules.
