I'm building a 6mm ARC AR15 primarily for hunting (coyote gun). I'm going with an 18" barrel, so I'd like a longer handguard. 17" is preferred. Currently, my top two are:
1. Geissele 16.5" MK18 Super Mod RailI (w/integrated Arca Swiss) Comes in at 18.4oz. (Don't mind the extra weight with the Arca)
2. BCM Alpha 17" (No integrated Arca) Weighs 9.9oz.

I haven't dabbled in the AR world after I built my last two ARs almost a decade now, and a lot has changed! Anyone know if there are any negatives to these? Anything else I should be considering? I want to keep it light, but need it to be durable too.

Sorry nobody replied to your post, I would have went with a solgw m89. What did you decide?

I don’t think you can go wrong with either hand guard. I have a couple of Geissele hand guards and I don’t like them. They are durable and well built, but I don’t care for their blocky-ness, if that is even a real word. So they are just sitting in a drawer waiting for someone to need them.

BCM makes some good stuff, as does SOLGW. I built an 18” 6ARC for a buddy and used an Aero Precision builder kit. The rail was only 15” but it still looks pretty good and shoots really well.

Well I “ordered” the Geissele Mark 18 on Optics planet. It was back order for MONTHS but I kept getting updates saying it was close… eventually I got an update stating the order was cancelled. I bought the Aero Precision R-One 16”.

it’s been great so far. Solid and light. No issues. Still want that Geissele, but it’s hard to justify at this point.

That’s an 18” carbon fiber Proof barrel. Perfect barrel for this purpose (IMHO)
Also just realized my original post said I was building a 6ARC… I actually went the 22 ARC route instead. Loving it so far.

Yeah that's an awesome looking build, definitely looks $$$. Generally, whenever I'm doing any kind of shopping, I tend to steer clear of optics planet. I had one experience with them and it was a bad one and I've never used them again. Product said in-stock, waited weeks for it to ship, ended up cancelling order. ..What offset mount is that?

Yeah.. definitely a lesson learned with optics planet. I saw other people online warn about that but I didn’t listen. That offset is a Rotapoint Gancho mount. It’s great, and also centered over the bore.
