Hammer bullets

Any more on-game feedback on these tipped Hammers? Did that softer batch of copper come in? Looking for something for my 7mm-08 for mtn goat out to 500 yds. May end up going with a 145 gr Speer hot cor SP or 140 gr ballistic tip, but wanted to try out some of the 118gr HHTs and see how fast I can get them going.

Shot a deer at 150 yards last season with a 6.5 PRC and a HHT, worked as expected, dead within 20 feet.
After shooting them to 800 yards, the BC is way off, and I’d keep impact velocity between 2000-2200 FPS, just my opinion.

Check out the Hammer forums. There are some kill reports of the 118. I think I’m going to load some up for my wife’s cow elk hunt this year. She needs light recoil… or just use 556 77TMK… but she likes the idea of no lead in the meat.

I’ve killed two elk with the 125 HHT in my 6.5 PRC. I’ve got no complaints - they group well, are always available, and do their job. Are the listed B.C. off? Yup, but I still verify drops at actual distance anyways, so not hard to reverse engineer it.

I agree with you. Everything I’ve shot with hammers have dropped.

I’ve killed close to 50 critters with the HHT’s. Mostly on whitetails. Not a single complaint with them. I’ve only used 2 bullets so far. The 154 gr. in a .308 Win and the 118 gr. In 7mm-08. Working up more cartridges for this upcoming season using the HHT’s.

Any 6mm guys? Looking into the suggested 75gr HHT's for the 6ARC. Not looking for big elk energy by any means but thinking 300+/- on mule deer and smaller. Thoughts?

90 HHT’s here. 6GT. Hate installing the tips, but they shoot like a dream.

So if the bc is off how are you figuring a drop chart?

I shoot hammer hunters and reload them in my 280ai. I came to it brand new, learning and reading extensively to work up something that worked for me. I don’t have a way to read velocity and wasn’t going to spend the money on that so I just plugged advertised BC into the chart along with estimated velocity. Zero @ 100. Shoot out to 400. Adjust velocity to match that drop and move forward. I could test to further distance to “true” that and further refine but it works for what I want/need so no further action needed. I found adjusting velocity in the chart was far more effective than adjusting BC. I really don’t care if BC matches or not. YMMV with your own level of ocd.

Thank you! I pretty well knew the answer but was curious if someone else’s theory was. Years ago I had a 338 Edge built like around 2009. My chronograph at the time just didn’t seem to work out with my NF ballistic program. I did the same thing as you mentioned and came up with a great drip chart that worked. The vel. I entered to make it work who knows what I actually was. Last year I bought a new garmin and will say tge vel I have used for all these years on the program was with in 5 fps of what tge garmin reads. So technology did get better.
