Looking for a good option in vihtavuori powder line up to h4350

N550 is supposedly a little faster burning (I've never used it). N555 is a little slower and powder charge weights are probably a little closer to h4831 in relation to when they hit pressure but is good in many of the same applications as h4350.

I'm looking in regards to 6mm creedmoor and 108s and 109s

Hodgson Burn Rate Chart as of Nov '23 looks like N550 is the closest

N555 will work for you. Almost a full case before you'll find pressure. I've tested it directly against H4350. You might pick up just a little extra speed.

In my burn rate chart, N150 is a little faster, N550 a bit slower. IMR 4350 would be a good one too and I've seen it available. A bit pricey, but I have seen it on shelves and I have used it forever.

Also loading N555 under the 108's in a 6 Creed. I picked up a nice bump in velocity from H4350. 3050 FPS in Alpha brass and a 210m in a 22" currently.

Just looked and N555 is fairly new and not even in my burn rate chart. Looks to be a good choice. I think I need a new burn rate chart.

The 5xx series powders are double base. H4350 is not. That alone makes N5XX a bad substitute if you're looking for the exact same thing.

N555 is your huckleberry. That's what I load behind 109s rather than h4350 and i've got 30-some pounds of h4350 on the shelf.

Damn I wish I didn't read this. Just bought 500 109eldms for my new 243 and have tons of H4350 too.

How much velocity did you pick up? Better accuracy?

I didn’t do exhaustive testing to prove it’s absolutely better so don’t fret if h4350 does what you need. I was getting sticky bolt lift with mine if I didn’t clean somewhat frequently so while it did seem to shoot a hair better, the main draw was getting same velocity at a little lower pressure.

It is, 555 is pretty temp stable and not particularly hot burning though so it doesn’t have the same attributes frequently come with double based powders.

This is exactly why I went to h4831sc burn rate powder in the 6 creed.

Towards the end of my last 6 creed barrel 39gn of h4350 and a 105 was almost popping primers by 100 rounds through a match.
