Guys who only carry a 10x bino…

I’m thinking about getting just a 10x30 pair of stabilized Sig Zulu 6s instead of the popular 12x or 16x models. My reasoning is that I want something lightweight and with a wide FOV for spotting elk. If I ever wanted something for counting points/assessing mountainous game, I’d want something with serious power like a spotting scope, not a 16x pair of binos. Right? In which case I’d carry my 10x stabilized binos for spotting game on the move and a high power spotting scope for assessing game. I’ve only ever hunted whitetail in Missouri so I’m looking to you guys for experience.

Binos are super individualized. I find 10x to be more difficult to stabilize, narrower FOV and more prone to mirage than 8x....but that's just me.

I don’t have any problems stabilizing my 10x42 swaro slc, personally if I was going stabilized I would take advantage of the higher usable handheld magnification. But I think your on the right track if you are just hunting any bull... and not looking for a certain caliber of bull

Sound advice, the stabilized image really shines in the higher magnification. Elk aren’t hard to spot with 10x. If you were a friend, I would tell you to save the money for something else.

Love my Swaro EL 10x32. Small, light and best lens optic for my hunting needs. It has a clearer, sharper in low light conditions than friends' 10x42 Leupold & Vortex binocs.

Backed up by 15x56 Swaro SLC and 20-60X Swaro spotter for tripod, butt planted glassing.

Big binos are better at finding game past 1000 yards than spotters and 10x binos. Spotters are better for scoring game at long distances. 8x/10x binos are better for finding game inside 1000 yards, handheld spotting, or looking at animals clearly in the open. I’m not a super trophy hunter, so I carry 10s on my chest and 18s in my pack

I hunt with 12x sigs. I find game more often than I did with 10x swaro SLCs, because every time you pull them out they’re on a tripod without having to pull out a tripod. I really don’t think there’s anything better for finding elk than image stabilized binos. My tripod might as well be a paper weight now.

My hunting partner bought a pair before I did, and his best description of them was “black magic”. I concur.

Maybe I should’ve been more clear with the title. I meant “guys who carry only low power binos and no spotting scope to back it up”. Is that normal? Like you guys that are commenting that you carry 8x or 10x, do you also carry a spotter like mavinwa2 said?

I have the Sig 10x, a set of Swarovski el range 10x32, and been messing with a set of 8x40 GPOs for one season.

I’ve hunted one trip with just binos on my chest, but typically I’m carrying 15x for glassing. I used to carry a spotter but I never pulled it out and prefer binos.

The 10x Sigs are good for what they are, but the image isn’t the same especially if you compare it to alpha glass on a tripod. If you’re only carrying one set, I’d go as high end as I could.

Only if I were after sheep. I can tell a good buck from over a mile away with 8s.....good 8s that is. I don't feel like I see more with 10s and my 15x Swaros require a tripod so they're just specialized for that IMO.
