I recently traded into a Kimber Montana .308. Pretty excited about having a Montana but not so much the .308 as my main hunting rifle is a 30-06. I've always wanted a 260ai and I think having a Montana in that cartridge would be pretty sweet. Can anyone recommend a gunsmith to rebarrel a Montana?

I’ve had kampfeld customs do a few. They have come out great. Have him bed them, flute the bolt, and add the flare with 5/8x24 threads.

Thanks guys.

I’ve had Kampfield do a couple bolts for me over the years and they always turned out perfect.

Just found a take off 260 Montana barrel for cheap. Now just need to decide if it’s worth having re-chambered to 260AI.

To me it would be. I really like my 260AI. 140 Berger Elite Hunter@2980 with H 4350. 24 in barrel.

The 260 factory take-off arrived Monday and I found a gunsmith about an hour away who can rechamber it to AI and install it!

I think you're located pretty close to me, which gunsmith are you using?

Still haven’t brought it in to do the barrel swap. I mounted a scope today and just wanted to shoot it for fun as a 308. 3 shots well under an inch with 150 Rem corelokts. Think I’m just gonna leave it as is for now. I have a gun that shoots and who knows if the eBay take off barrel is as accurate. I’d hate to wreck a good thing.
