Curious what everyone is liking these days for a basic gun vise to mount/level scopes, install brakes, clean, etc

Seems like Tiptons quality is going downhill so wondering if anyone has any other brands they like/recommend.

I have one of these and it works like a champ for all things you asked about.

I have a RealAvid, but I wouldn't recommend it if you need to bang on anything - I've bent its cross-support guide rods twice now on relatively light stuff, including a tough AR barrel nut. That said, they do warn specifically against heavy-duty use. For lightweight stuff though, it's an excellent vise. The jaw blocks are pretty well thought-out, and handy.

Def open to that- by chance have a picture of something you made?

Depending on personal preference, you may even like soft jaws for a bench vice to save space. I come home from the range, clamp the barrel, run a wet patch once every ten minutes while doing other things until the barrel comes out squeaky clean. I also keep a short bipod handy that I like for scope mounting.

Even better would be leather jaws like many gunsmiths use that clamp well on metal parts or stocks.

Nothing wrong with the diy gun cradles and I should make another one and stop giving them away to friends. 🙂
