Wood frame on a crawlspace, or do you mean a block wall filled with dirt and slab poured over that?Any thoughts on spotting a gun safe in the house on a raised foundation? Will the foundation need extra support? Safe weighs 500# but may upgrade to near 1K. The garage is obviously OK with a goldenrod etc.

It depends more on joist span and direction as well as the location of the safe on the type of house he has. Joist size is variable too.Think about how much weight one adult exerts on a wood floor when they stand there. Easily you can have 200+ pounds in a 18 inch circle. In a properly built house I wouldn't sweat a 600 pound safe that has its weight spread out over maybe a 36x30 inch area.
1000 pounds? Not sure.
Something like this is the way. I’m in construction and would absolutely not park a 500lb safe on a framed floor without support. Can it be done? Likely. Is it a good idea? No.A concrete pier and some 4x4 lumber will usually suffice.
We call this a drop girder here.A concrete pier and some 4x4 lumber will usually suffice.
