my first year with my AMR and gun bearer...I was curious as to those of you who have been running one for awhile where on your waistbelt is your situated for the most comfort.. it seems as if mine when loaded with my rifle pulls on my shoulder strap pretty hard and after awhile makes it uncomfortable. rifle weight is 10.5 lbs...maybe its just not set up correctly?
should it be farter forward in the middle or as far back as possible?

I think if you move it forward on the belt it will help (makes rifle more vertical). The strap on shoulder part depending on rifle I guess should be wrapped around just at the front of where the rifle scope is. I would play with it in a few different positions to find the sweet spot.

I have the Kifaru universal bearer on my SG pack. I will try to take a picture. I try to run mine even or just behind the center line on the side of my leg. I like it a little back because if I am just hiking in or out, I strap the gun to the pack so it is completely out of the way. I really only have it in the "forward" position if I expect to see what I am after.

10.5 lbs is fairly heavy though......my gun, loaded with scope and all is 7.25 lbs and it still pulls on mine a bit.

I get the same discomfort from mine. I have a belt pouch forward on my belt so the gun bearer is mounted to the rear of the belt. I also like to be able to strap the barrel to the pack instead of the shoulder strap sometimes.

I attached the badlands rifle carrier to the rear of my pack. I use it both on the nomad and the DT2. I could not stand the uneven load of carrying a rifle on one side of me. IF I was packing in, and balanced the load right, it worked, but any other time, side carry was not comfortable.

I've been using one since they first came out. Used it for one 3-day hunt with a ton of hiking and said this ain't going to work the way they promoted using it with the scope under your arm. I played with it at home and found having the scope facing forward works the best for me - haven't changed it since.

ya i had the same problem. I dont know the weight of my rifle I can say Its heavy. I mainly pack a 7mm rem.mag. wit a 26in. barrel. not the lightest of rifle set ups but I just love the way she shoots. It worked a little better with my savage LWH. in 6.5 creedmoore but I would rather carry the weight of the 7mm.

Does anyone use hiking poles in conjunction with the gun bearer? It seems like it would be in the way.

Yes - I use hiking poles with the Gunbearer- you will learn to adapt. 95% of the time I just use one pole but always have a 2nd one on my pack for the really steep country. A lot of times while packing out a heavy load using 2 poles I strap my rifle to my pack.

I run my GB on my Duplex one position forward of the furthest back slot in the webbing. Also run it on the bottom row. Puts the rifle at an angle that allows me to use 2 trekking poles and still pull up my binos easily. There is definitely an "art" to how to set up the GB and it took me a few trials and errors to find the sweet spot. As said above, 10.5lbs is a different challenge than I had since I run with around 8lbs rifles most all the time. I would guess with your set up you'd want to have a bit more vertical to set the weight in the cradle and off the shoulder strap. Good luck with your set up.

when hunting I don't use the GB because I use an Eberlestock w/ scabbard and a lightweight rifle - Please forgive my questions, reading this my curiosity got the better of me .... while carrying a full pack as in hiking in to your camp or whatever, you're not going to see game and roll your rifle out of the GB and set up to shoot with the pack on are you ? I've seen many different carry methods pictured on Rokslide and the most comfortable mountings would appear to be on the pack itself and easily/quickly accessible once the pack is off which should take several seconds, am I missing something here ? it seems to me that there are a few good and fast ways to carry a rifle while wearing a day pack and hunting that unleash the rifle into your hands to shoot quickly but are you going to be doing that carrying a "long range 10-12 lb rifle" ? - scabbard - crossways on top with quick release straps - boonie sling - .......

I have mine mounted on an EXO pack, the butt portion is as far back as it will go on the belt. The upper portion is about midway on the shoulder strap and I get it really tight on the gun. I don't like it too high because the barrel blocks my vision. If you play with it some you should be able to get it so the majority of the weight is on the belt and not the shoulder strap. I can also carry the rifle upright behind my shoulder by cinching it to the bag if I wanted to. My rifle is 10.5 lbs and I hardly notice it while walking.

Me too. I mounted mine as far back as the belt would allow. The top attachment I have secured through my sternum strap buckle on the right side. I cinch the rifle as tight as it'll go up top & the butt-cup is set right at the middle of it's adjustment. This was my first year of using it & I was really skeptical of the gun getting in my way or the scope bothering me under my arm. Shouldn't have worried at all. I didn't even notice the gun after a couple of hours.
Maybe try tightening your load lifters a bit?

I use a homemade Gunbearer copy, mostly on Seek Outside packs and think the system is brilliant. Can't see using anything else. My mine hunting rifle is a Montana with a 20" barrel and an 8 oz scope, so the following might not work for the big cannons.

I attach the butt sling to the bottom corner of the frame, and run it low. My trigger guard is middle of waistbelt, and the upper strap cinches only a little below the front sling swivel. When I had the rifle higher it was more noticeable and less comfy. I like that the Gunbearer doesn't interfere with bushwacking, scrambling, or using two trekking poles. And yes, two years back I shot a deer off hand at 50 yards, and a few more seconds futzing with the gun might well have meant no shot.

Well done Mr. Smith.
