How many run this as a day pack and how has it worked out? Is it comfortable?

It works...comfort will depend entirely on what you cram in it. I've ran mine with about 15 or so pounds in it and it was fine.

Thanks for the info. I thought that would depend on how much weight is in it. Appreciate it!

A guy once told me dentures are not a substitute for teeth, they are a substitute for no teeth. The same is true for using the guide lid as a daypack.

Yup, all good! Even held my chair, spotter and tripod. Put my kill kit and other essentials in a large pocket for the archery bear opener last weekend. Good to go. Gunbearer carried the bow most of the day.

Would you guys recommend 500d or 1000d?

500d seems to do just fine, Kifaru appears to be moving away from 1000d. My guess is that the 500d fabric that Kifaru uses is about 10 times stronger then other brands 1000d fabric that is made overseas.

I just went on a canoe trip and took my 500D Guide lid along. It was sweet! I was able to clip the straps around the seat while paddling. It was also comfortable to wear while out of the boat hiking around.

I use it every day as an edc. Perfect for a laptop, notepad, a handful of books, pens, pencils, etc. I plan to use it as a daypack as well. Perfect for a day's worth of food and water and maybe a puffy jacket. In general, I much prefer 1000d--I've never had it puncture or sustain noticeable damage, and I cannot say the same for 500d.

BTW I was referring to using it without the frame and just using the straps that come with it... it would feel just like your regular pack on the frame, just heavier

I used mine quite a bit this year as a day pack. It's perfect for throwing some water and snacks in for shorter hikes. I've also used it to carry tackle when I've broke off from camp to do some fishing.

I was looking at mine the other day. I thought I could get some pack straps with the buckle attachments for on the go use. It should fill in for a back pack nicely with the padded straps added. Just have to find straps.

Mine has strap already attached to it...does yours not have the hidden Velcro pouch?

The straps are there but really wanting something more usable. Kifaru sells straps as well as a few other companies so it should be real hard to find something works.
