I started lab aging all the bucks we have taken over the last couple years between my personal hunts and guided trips for the outfitter buddy I work for. Thought it might be fun to see guys guesses on ages and green scores while we wait for the fall…

Have videos of most of these bucks and wish it was easier to post those too but oh well.

Just quick gross guesses. Ive learned since I have started aging my bucks that ages are very hard to guess. I just took a quick look at the faces and gave er a shot. Pm me the answers please.

Awesome bucks btw!

Ive never been good at scoring, I just know a good buck is good. Aging is hard without the deer on the hoof. The best way for me to estimate an age is by the fullness of the haunches and how the belly tuck is or isnt.

Those are big deer. I really under judged most of them.

Man, if there was any one thing I was completely and entirely wrong about on any of these bucks, I would have 100% said #7 was the oldest on the lot. And i cant accept that buck was only 3 yrs old! Insane.

I did lab cementum aging for the first time on our 2024 deer. Pretty interesting. I’ve hunted whitetail for a lot longer than MD but the concept that any WT buck will make 150”+ if you just let them get to 5.5 or older or shooting 160” MD is cutting them down before their prime is not a universal truth. All kinds of factors play in.

I also thought the jaw characteristics were interesting too. Wide range of wear between bucks. All lab ages were “high confidence”.

Utah 162” - lab age 6.5

Utah 170” - lab age 4.5

Colorado 173” (would be 180” if he had the L G3) - lab age 5.5yrs

Idaho 166” (6 1/8” base measurement) - lab age 6.5

All great looking bucks - I'm really not into scoring deer (since I haven't killed anything worth scoring), but those are all "big enough"! haha
