No real Cliff notes. Everyone needs to watch the whole thing and educate themselves about the impact of wolves on wildlife and livestock. If you don't have the time to watch this then you can wonder what happened when there is nothing left to hunt due to wolf predation. This guy is extremely knowledgeable about wolf behavior and the difficulty of managing them once they are turned loose. Colorado is in for a rude awakening.

Good watch and hard facts. As I’ve said previously, only good wolf a dead one. I’ve met three trappers in north Idaho and between them they have stacked over 200 wolves. They have helped tremendously to save herds of elk. I’ve been in my tent at 2 am with 3 wolves howling very close. Let’s just say it will make your hair stand up.

Reintroduction of apex predators is an anti hunting plan to eliminate sport hunting as a management tool. If you decimate game populations, you kill the desire to hunt and the hunting culture.

You lose game department revenue, guides and outfitters go out of business, generations of outdoor knowledge is lost and hunting dies a slow death.

This is absolutely true - but you need to follow the money to find the proof. The middle-aged Karens, their millennial organizers, and these "grassroots" orgs they set up are merely the front-line units - funded and directed from elsewhere. Greg is the man. His experience with wolves, particularly seeing and dealing with the actual conflicts, is unmatched. He is probably the only person on earth with the level of experience he has on the subject.

Do people really have trouble finding elk in wolf areas? Alot of these posts act like its a desolate wasteland. I agree that wolves have impacts, but in my experience in wolf areas, I have zero problem finding tons of elk. Deer not so much.

It’s not black and white. Very region specific and depends on may different factors. But the Lolo, Frank, Selway, Bob Marshall, etc have all suffered beyond belief due to wolves.

Then I’ve been in a part of Wyoming that was loaded with elk and wolves. That could change in another decade.

Some remote Idaho and Nwest Montana drainages used to be crazy with elk. These areas no one sets foot in for 3-4 months due to snow and access. Trapping is almost impossible and they simply chase and kill at will. Yes these areas were devastated by wolves.

The scary thing is how hard they are to hunt. You could stop reintroduction, give every hunter a free wolf tag and let them be open season for all of archery/rifle and based on what Greg is saying you probably ain't gonna slow them down much. Maybe the first year?

When I was a young warthog and first heard about reintroducing wolves to the national parks, I didn't immediately hate the idea (because I was ignorant). It's an easy sell to any non-hunter/rancher, etc. What no one outside of those communities talked about or understood: how far they will disperse, how effective they are at killing (including when it's just for fun/teaching young) and how much of the wildlife department budget is tied up in big game hunting.

You can ignore the "how many hunters there are", "how big the industry is (i.e. all of the U.S.-based companies with American workers)", "way of life" or similar arguments. Those things do not matter to non-hunters/ranchers, and never will - we need to stop arguing those points because they fall on deaf ears.

Not sure what clause the Colorado CPW used to pause the reintroduction, or if it was because no one will provide them wolves, but good on them.

It's unfair to the wolves that are now under the microscope, being mitigated and killed because they are doing what wolves do. As well, it's going to be a Deliverance inbred population in a few generations. Doesn't seem anybody's crying foul about the astronomic cost of this program, the snowflakes deflated the number in order to sell it.

100 drunk guys in a bar could have looked at that proposal and come to the conclusion it's not going to work.

Wolves being wolves yes, but the Oregon wolves were known to be preying on livestock before they were relocated. Colorado is pausing not because they want to, but because pressure has been put on the wolf suppliers. They will start doing it again as soon as they can find a source.

I have no reason to dislike wolves, other than they are in Colorado by such a forced means the train wreck will never end. Mountain communities are expanding and dividing up areas of wilderness, wolves will get landlocked per se in areas that will be devastating to animal populations. I've wondered why they didn't release them in Rocky Mountain National park. Maybe they don't want the tourists to see nature in action while standing with their cameras and kids along the road.

Like I said, they're doing what wolves do and paying the price for idiots at the ballot box. Idiots at the ballot box want to ban hunting yet their votes are responsible for wolves being in the situation they are. But none of them are thinking of that sitting in crammed communities on the Front Range. It's a different viewpoint but the hypocrisy is thick by folks that voted.

Re-introduction of wolves is intended to end hunting by those orchestrating the political/NGO machines behind the effort.

It is a backdoor ban on our hunting.

When "minimum sustainable population numbers" of prey species are reached, there will be no deer or elk tags for those zones.

I appreciate that post, I honestly do not believe when people voted for it that was in their mind. Most definitely would have been in the minds of the people funding the push through organizations. Absolutely agree on that. Like cattle to the trough, give them a reason to vote on something that tugs at the heartstrings and they show up in droves. They don't give a crap the wolves have a shit life always being hazed and potentially killed for doing what wolves do. Man, if those wolves knew the attention they're getting.... they would beeline to an advocate and someone could request Government funding on their behalf. That of course is in jest.
