Grayl water filter use

I've got a Grayl water bottle purifier that I love using when I go hiking or hunting, and I'd really like to start taking it with me to work (office environment) where I'd mostly be filling it with already clean water and not using the filter feature. Could this shorten the life of the filter, keeping it wet all the time? I know I can take the filter off, but I'd really prefer to keep it all together so I don't have to keep track of where the filter is for when I want to take it with me into the woods
