Managed to fill my first elk tag here in Wyoming yesterday morning. My friend got his second elk and shot the biggest bull in the herd, and I got the lead cow right after his bull dropped. He had a general tag and I only had a cow tag otherwise we could have doubled on bulls. We snuck into a herd of 70+ and got within 165 yards right at first light. Took a few minutes to find the largest bull and it all happened pretty quick, 2 shots and 2 dead elk. He shot his right in the base of the neck/point of the shoulder with a .270 and it dropped like a sack of potatoes, I hit mine sqaure in the shoulder with a 7mm 162 gr eld-x and she made it 15-20 yards and was done. Fantastic hunt with a good friend!
