Well we had our fall branding and everything went great. Lots of kids to help which was great.

First we had a roping clinic so everyone could work on some skills.

But I usually have some help marking them. Lol. We use flour to mark the calves that have been processed so we dont rope them again.

Hoping your cattle are in better shape than ours. 2018 was our wettest year ever. Getting hay up dry was a real challenge and the quality was low in you did. Had heavy rains keeping cows wet and in the mud all winter just caused more hardship. Last week was nice and we finally got ground dried up. Cows traded them duck feet for their hooves back. Looks like you had a great event.

( I meant spring branding on fall calves)

Event was awesome. Great turnout, lots learned.

Last summers drought was tough on the babies. Definitely not the biggest set of calves I've raised but spring is here and were ready for some grass!

Love seeing this type of stuff. Where are you all located. Don’t hear of near as many brandings down here as I did when I was up in Colorado for the summer in 2017.

Looks like a blast. Nothing better than throwing a perfect loop in there and heading to the fire.

Nice pics and great to see such a turn out of friends and young ones. We just ear tag here and call the vet to process sometime in early September. Kind of a row cropper with a bit pasture.

Thanks for sharing,

Chris

Do I know anyone from Crossroads? Yes I know them well. They put on our branding clinic every year lol

Small world. I worked on a ranch up in Walden summer of 2017 and luckily worked with a fella that knew BJ and Janet and the rest of the crew. Ended up going to their Bible study on Friday nights and getting to know them pretty well. I’ve seen em a couple times since. Went to a branding with them a year ago in Anderson in January. Great great people.

I second that. I see BJ about 3 or 4 times a year at different branding and clinics. He does a clinic at my place on a Saturday, then preaches at our church on Sunday morning. I still haven't made it out to his place in Colorado. We keep threatening to go out just never have. I think I'd get nervous around that many cattle lol

We'll be headed over the hill to Saratoga to help some rancher friends of ours brand about 400 head in May. They use a table so no roping but a long day for the 10 or so of us working the calves.

400 is a day for sure. It would take the best crew then some to drag that many. We've done about 175 in a day before. Better have extra horses and tough hands.

This reminds me of helping the the guys whose ranches I use to hunt on when I was in middle school and highschool. Those brandings are some of my best memories, I miss those days and the characters that would show up, never a dull moment.

I think I know I’m in the wrong part of the world when that’s not happening as frequently as it should be. Plus, most don’t brand out here- just not enough cattle to warrant it. Think I should head back home this spring.. thanks for the pics!

Brandings are still going strong out here. A day of hard work and a good meal after hosted by the rancher.
Luckily we don;t have to round those cattle up , they know the drill and head to the corrals almost on their own.
