Interesting, I'll have to look that up.Very cool buck. I believe the condition is called cryptorchidism. The buck I took this year had it as well.

Fitz, the biologist/ ranch manager on the property mentioned he probably wasn't a true stag for the same reason. They had seen him over the years only in velvet but apparently he may only have gotten hard horned a couple seasons. Best guess. Either way I'd take him again in a heart beat.I don't think the OP's deer is a crypto buck (stag). They never lose their velvet. He has a very interesting arrangement though. Looks like maybe his pedicles were injured at the very beginning of his development.
