Google Earth Overlay Maps

I've been using GE for scouting the past few years. I typically just use a topo overlay, and the aerial photos. I'd like to add some additional overlay maps but I'm not really sure how. Does anyone know of any other good maps to add to GE? I would love to add the motor vehicle use maps for montana if at all possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can you download the motor use maps? are they in either .kml, .gpx or .shp format?

Google Earth Pro is free now. It can directly import .shp files which a lot of states use for their GIS data.

log in with your email and GEPFREE as password

you can also add scanned forest maps if you email the gis person and ask for geo referenced tiff versions.

Somewhat along these lines, does anyone know a free program that will show viewsheds? Or vertical change over a path line?

Google earth pro does this. Create the path using the measure tool. There is a box to check that shows the profile view with percent slopes and everything.

Thanks for all the info guys. I've been playing with GE for the past few years, but need to step it up and add more features. Looks like GE Pro is the way to go. If I download pro, will all of my markers from regular GE transfer over, or will I need to keep both?

When I downloaded GE Pro everything transferred with no issues.
