Good bars in Bristol??

Not much of a drinker but lived just up the road for a few years. There is a very good BBQ place called bristol BBQ. It's a tiny drive through place.

The better bars were all on state street back when I lived in the area.

The bars on State St close at different times depending on if you're on the VA or TN side of the street

Not really. More like restaurants that also serve drinks. There's a place on State Street called 620 State that makes a smoked Old Fashioned that's pretty good. It's within walking distance of a BBQ place called Delta Blues. It's a hole-in-the-wall, tiny spot. But, their BBQ is good and you can get a combo plate with smoked jalapeno sausage (this sausage is really good). I'd hit the BBQ and then walk over to 620 for drinks.

I don't know what kind of experience you're looking for here, but if it's something like spring break lite, you won't find it in Bristol. Knoxville would definitely have more actual bars, and different classes of bars. Asheville is full of nut jobs, nudists, and hippies - they also have an unreal amount of local breweries and beers nobody else has ever even heard of.

Southern Craft BBQ is really good but I'm not sure if the bar is open since it's on the VA side. Cascade is a cool beer bar on State Street. I also second Delta Blues and they are starting live music back up in April so that should be a good time. The rooftop bar at the Bristol Hotel is pretty cool if the weather is nice. Stateline if you feel like tying one on and seeing where the night takes you. I just moved back to the area from Virginia Beach/Norfolk and still can't get over how much cheaper food and drinks are here.

Johnson City has some cool spots but it's like a hybrid between Bristol and Asheville in my opinion.
