I didn't realize they made a 4. Pretty sure it was the 3 or 5. Either way, they're good shelters. I owned both. Much preferred the 5 man for space and ease of setup.

Not the best pics, but might give you an idea of the size of a SL4. It was perfect for 2 guys and gear.

I would say no.
I just picked up an sl5 and set it up today. Itll be a tight fit for 3 guys and gear without a stove in the 5. With an sl4 I'd say you could fit 3 guys and gear with a stove if you're okay with your buddies laying on top of you.

I have a 4 and it would work for 2 and gear with a stove and 3 without the stove. They are great I have not had mine in heavy winds but I have used it in snow and rain.

Shoot I had pictures here of my SL5 on a hunt for ya...but with the new site I cannot find them.

You are getting accurate advice above.

FYI, The cat curve of these Golite tipis cuts your useable space down a lot...unless you pitch it really high almost like a tarp.. then its pretty drafty.

What you will find is that there is a happy medium when pitching. Its the same with any tipi or single wall floorless shelter. By that I mean if you pitch all the way tight to the ground, the condensation can be really bad. These floorless shelters NEED to vent...at least a little.

And be careful, the fabric they used is 15D...not very strong...and once it rips the rip will run. My dog stepped on the side of mine...and it ran for about 30". The tape they sell at the camping outlets 'Tenacious Tape' is a must to have along with these shelters [any of them, IMO]

I put a stove jack in mine and built a stove from shim stock. You can buy stove jacks at Bearpaw designs[ they will install too] or you can easily make your own with the fabric at Rip Stop By the Roll.

FYI, If you are into modifying stuff...putting a bigger vent in that thing will make a huge difference.

if i made a skirt for it and set it up high , like 8 to 12 inches , do you think it could do 3 and a stove? thinking of carrying a tarp seperatly for gear.

Well thats what I did with my home sewn tipi...works great. It gives you almost the full footprint of usable space.

I sewed Velcro on so I can remove it...I regret that as I never remove. Sewed in velcro windows too. I would start the wall in from the edge about 4" or so. Mine is 16"T, If I did it again I would leave more fabric for a tuck on the ground, helps seal bugs and critters out, etc.

I like the idea of that. do you have pics you can share of your setup?

You can do three with a stove if you keep packs and such outside, but it will be tight. Two and a stove is ideal.

Looks to be slightly larger than a MLD supermid. My Supermid is a little tighter than I'd like for 2+ stove.

Pictures? This is all i have from a backpack hunt in Montana in Sept. its cold/ snow so its pitched lower than i normally do.

The light green section is about 16” of a lighter Sil than i used for the tipi- its protected so no need for durable fabric.

I used coated fabric but if I had a do over I would just use uncoated and instead of 16 inches tall I probably would go 24. The additional fabric can act as a seal. I did velcro to tipi with velcro windows.

If i did a do over i would just sew it to the tipi and be done. I never use it without the walls.

AK, ME - what time of year is it?
Do u think it would fit 3 and a stove?
No. just like with most tent manufacturers, halve the rated persons and you'll be about right for winter camping capacity.

With bows, bags, gear, etc. plus a stove, you'd be comfortably maxed out with 2 - especially if it's 2 big guys. It's a single wall tent and you'll need to stay away from the wall material.

We use it with three for summer and shoulder season camping, but when hunting in cold weather with all the gear, it's a 2-man tent.

That said - my Shangri-La 5 only weighed 6 oz more than my Ultamid 2, and was half the price, much quieter and much less shiny.

I'd recommend buying it just to have it around. You'll definitely enjoy it, just not with 3 guys, a stove and all your gear!

EDIT: I see that you bought it. Bet you'll like it!
