Lots of pressure since crossguns became legal. Every field has blinds. I was there late and not too many hunting then but birds were call shy. Woods too thick to hunt since the ice storm and autumn olive took over the woods. I let the manager know he needs to start the burn rotation up again to open up the woods. I still took two in 4 days... took advantage of high wind to stalk in on a couple field birds using the thick woods for cover.

OH YA!!!! I can't wait. I have a backpack hunt planned for Nc. I'm going to a new spot so I need to get over there and get a lay of the land a little bit here in the next few days. I think I'll go squirrel hunting and scout around abit. I am also in the planning stages with my cousin in PA for a backpack through hunt in Pa. We are going to drop one truck off at the hunting camp we hunt out of. Then take another to the trail head and pack in and hunt our way back to the camp. The trail runs right below camp. I figure it will take about 3-4 days. Depending on if we get birds going or not. Pa you can only hunt till noon in the area we are going. So hunt the morning till noon , pack up and move down the trail for awhile maybe trout fish and set up camp and then repeat until back to hunt camp. By then My dad and other cousins will be there at camp. Then hunt a few days with those guys unless I already have my bird. Then I'll just sleep in while they are rolling out at 430 in the morning. GAWD I love that part!!

I can understand that. I wish I had private land that I could take you on here. All I have is public land around here. I hunt a diy outfiffed place in NE that has hybrids. If it wasn't such a good place, I'd stop going and finish my slam. Lol

Maybe I can luck up on a Merriam at some point.

We have merriams up here in the black hills of South Dakota! OTC tags as well

This will be my first year to hunt turkeys here in KY. Me and my brother are planning a weekend trip into the elk zone to shed/turkey hunt. I'll also be hunting them on public ground closer to the house. KY has what I would consider a lot of public ground. We have over 80 WMA's. The one close to my house is 45,000 acres spread across three counties. There are also coal company properties that, if you know the right contact, and pay a $100 year annual permits, you will have full run of the place. Last year they sold around 100 permits that gave access to about 5,000 acres. Anyways, if anyone wanted any more info on places to turkey hunt on the western side of KY, just shoot me a PM. I can't help you kill one, but I can show you properties on a map and let you decide.
