Looking to start getting some goats to make a pack string. My main concern is doing a lot of solo archery hunting for November deer and elk, would putting them on a high line while making a stalk be a problem? Also, I’m looking to get a somewhat started string. Would it be a problem if I got one 100 percent ready to go and a couple 2-2.5 year olds before I get some kids?

We tether out our goats on a high line at camp every night. The goats are fine with it. Don't see why doing it for a stalk would be any different. As long as they aren't separated they don't make any noise.

I'll address the last part of your question. Yes you could get an adult ( one ready to go) and a couple younger around 2+ years.

Just so you know they pack great at 2. They will have a lower endurance so lighter loads say 20 ish lbs and rotate the load between the youngsters if they get tired. If they are conditioned and good breeding they will do great at 2.
I start mine at that age with a pack and by the end of that summer a 25 lb load can be carried well. Then at year 3 you can increase that load.
They will definitely learn from the older goat if he's a good experienced one.
Feel free to message me and I'll shoot you my # and can help you with more details and possibly finding goats.
