Glock g40

About to buy a g40 to carry while bowhunting, anyone have anything good or bad to say about em? It’s a big pistol and I’m sure it’s gonna have some weight to it with 15 bullets. If you have one, do you carry it in a chest rig while hunting or a traditional holster? Thanks!

I have one i've been meaning to trade on a 9mm.. Hasn't left the safe in probably 3 years.

I think i'd prefer a g20 if going 10mm. It's just a big bish to carry, unholster, and shoot. I didn't shoot em in the same session but it felt like muzzle rise was worse with my g40 than my buddies g20.

I got the gunfighter kenai chest holster for it and didn't much care for that either. One day walking around outside with my wife and I was not a fan of flagging her nonstop with the muzzle pointed sideways. Also would take some training to draw as quickly as from hip as i'm accustomed to.

Haven't hunted in core griz area but typically elk hunted in fringe griz areas and find myself carrying a Shield 9 over the dang g40 i got specifically for that purpose.

Stick with the twenty, it's not worth going to the forty. It will be easier to find a holster. I run a really stiff belt with a blade dropped offset rig. This way I can have it on me at all times even when wearing a backpack. I am a steak on a stick when carrying quarters. 150lb 5'10" so skinny my buddy's heavier and he cannot wear backpack and holster together due to his gut. Whatever you do, practice drawing from holster repeatedly. Better yet go shoot a practical competition with it. That way, you really understand what you are capable of.

In my mind, just about the only reason to go for a G40 is if you plan on hunting with it as a primary weapon.

I’ve had one for a few years and barely use it. I originally got it to hunt whitetails (got one!) and because I was expecting to hunt western MT every couple of years (I’m not).

I ended up moving to Colorado and don’t have much use for it here. It still a fun gun though!

I like mine. All I've done is add a peep rear sight and a Wolff spring. It's definitely easier to shoot than the other 10mms I've tried. It fits well under my bino harness with a Gunfighters holster. I also carry it in a holster on my bird vest. That said, I'm leaning towards carrying my 9mm Sig more for weight and because I shoot it better. The 10 will still come along for pheasant hunting and a few places in Montana where I routinely see grizzlies.

I've had one since about the time they started making them. I love it! Yes for general carrying for defense it's a little big. The reason I went to the 40 though was it was optics ready and would be better as a dedicated hunting gun.
I've shot a few deer and a black bear with it. The one deer was a running head shot at 35 yards with one shot Last couple minutes of the season and I needed to fill a b tag.
I did swap the recoil spring and rod out and put a Zev Pro trigger on it. Made 100% sure it'd function after the mods. She's never had an issue. Even with hot underwood's.

I'd like to get a g20 slide for it for carrying though. But honestly I think I'd only save an oz or two.

I have had a 40 for about 10 years and have maybe 3 magazines through it. It sits in the safe while I continue to use my 20. The 40 is just a big and silly range toy to me. If I was going to carry that much weight in a sidearm I'd skip the 40 and pack my .454 Casull.
