just picked up a 43x. Looking for suggestions on ammo. Glock says not to use lead rounds. But I see several people saying they are using hard cast.
Also was looking at the BB's barnes but they are +p+ can the glock handle it?

I have one with the 15 round mags. But I haven’t shot any lead cast or +p. I really like the pistol, though. I picked up a G45 also.

Get a few 15 round mags from Shield Arms, and swap out the mag catch for their aluminum one as well.

I would assume like every Glock I’ve owned prior, lead is not recommended due to the polygonal rifling in Glock barrels. Typically when someone talks about lead, their using the round for bear protection, is that what you’re intending? If not, I’d wouldn’t shoot it as there’s plenty of other good stuff out there to shoot. If you are planning to use it for bear protection, then an aftermarket barrel which fully supports the case and can handle lead, would be my suggestion.

Does the 43x have the gen 5 Glock Marksmanship Barrel (GMB) barrel in it? If so, you're clear for lead. The pre-gen 5 barrels with polygonal rifling are no-go for lead. Although there are reports of people using hard cast and some who will say they will shoot a couple mags and then clean thoroughly after, its not advised by manufacturer. The gen 5 GMB's are cut differently and safe for lead. I would be cleaning afterward regardless. In general, as a reloader, I avoid lead since it requires extra prep and has to be loaded a little slower. If you're reloading, try plated. Its advertised to load to lead specs but it can be pushed faster in my experience.

In relation to +P or +P+, there should be a little pentagon after the serial on the barrel. If it has that with a dot in the center of the pentagon, it is +P rated. I don't think any +P+ ammo is recommended by any manufacturer. In a piece as small as a 43x, I would be a little shy to use +P+, its a handful. Most guys I know who run ammo that hot are using it to reliably cycle Uzis and similar that have stiffer recoil systems.

Thabks for the info guys..
The 43x does have the gen5 marksmanship barrel.
I plan on this as a canceled carry 90% of the time. I don't plan on being in grizzly country any time soon but will still carry this in black bear country even though I'm really not worried about black bears.. its more of a price of mind thing I guess. Thats why I was asking about hardcast.
It will run jacked ammo 99% of its life.

I use Hornady 135 Critical Duty +P for my carry ammo in my 43x. I haven't had any malfunctions with that ammo.

Have shot just about everything through my 43 including a little bit of hardcast. No problems with anything. I figure have 1000 rounds though it, haven't cleaned or messed with it all. I beat the hell out of it as my spring and summer EDC.

I load 5grs longshot under a 147 berry's hybrid and my penetration/ expansion tests show it to be superior to my gold dots.

I get zero pressure signs however the barrel is not as tolerant of case swell as the previous ones.

I have never used a stock mag as I had 3x 15rd shields waiting along with a mag catch.

I also added g19 hackethorn sights which are the greatest addition beyond mags so far.

I have a few thousand rounds through mine and the only ftf has been my fault on a dead primer.
Expect 15+" and nice expansion from the berry's if driven hard.

I run the Hornady Critical Defense 115 FTX though my 43X. I haven't had any FTF or other issues.

I own an early 43, after a spat with Sig customer service, I got rid of my 938 and went with the 43. I put a few thousand rounds through it suppressed and unsuppressed, all running reliably. I put some night sights, +2 base pads, a trigger kit, and a TLR-6 on it. My brother borrowed it in 2018 and I haven't seen it since...

I have a handful of 124/147gr handload recipes for plated Xtreme bullets using Bullseye or Power Pistol... supers and subs all run reliably.

I carry Gold Dot 124 gr. +P in my 48. They function fine, and recoil isn't too bad. Don't feel any need/desire for lead. That would only come into play in big bear country, and I wouldn't be carrying a 9mm there. I'll throw in another unsolicited reco for the the Shield 15 round mags and metal mag release.
