I’m putting together a new hunting rig to move to a smaller caliber. Bought a Sako 90 in .243. It will almost always be used inside of 300 yds, but want the ability to stretch to 500. Now I’m needing some glass. My other rigs are topped with leupold vx-6 hd or S&B meta scopes. All use spuhr mounts and none hold zero. And it’s obnoxious.

I’m not concerned about price, but like to spend money intelligently and usually based on quality. I’d appreciate your input on:

1) ATACR 4-16 x 50
2) SHV 3-10 x 42

And- since I’ll almost always going to be within 300 yds and on low zoom, I’m thinking 2nd focal plane is best. Any different perspectives there?

Lastly, I've read lots of field evils- am I missing any options good for close range that are rock solid?

The 3-10 SHV is a great scope. I had three but am down to one now, only because I upsized to the 4-14x56 SHV. No issues with holding zero, mine all go hunting. We fly and ride a ferry twice a year so traveling in a hard case, on top of the normal hunting I do at home. Put them in good mounts and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. No experience with an ATAC-R but I don’t think durability is even a question.

Trijicon is the other scope I use. Also a solid performer. Good mounts are essential.
