Glassing Setup Weight (Binos)

Looking at dialing in a glassing setup. Currently using Maven C series 10x42; don't have any issues with them since the area we hunt is broken country with line of sight being 1000 yards and in. I would like to mount them to a tripod for stability. I currently have a Slik Pro 700 DX with a ball head but it's 7 or so pounds w/ head before the binos are attached.

The area I hunt is normally pretty windy 20-25 mph, elevation changes are 200 feet but pretty steep, we put on about 3-4 miles a day. We day pack in from the truck. In your opinion, should I run with what I've got for stability in high winds, or look at getting something lighter weight?

I've got a Promaster 525 carbon tripod that I removed two sections of two legs on. The tripod comes in a shade under 28 ounces like this, suitable for sitting only but quite stable.

I left the third leg section full length because I like using it as a monopod. With that leg off and the center column attached for monopod use, I'm at 11.2 ounces. Being in the east, I'm not subjecting myself to long periods of glassing over huge expanses of country or distance, so the monopod option works well.

With either of the above, I'm using the Wiser Precision Nighthawk panhead at 6.1 ounces. I've only had it a few weeks, but so far it is a thing of beauty for binos.

For your scenario, I would probably stick with what you have if you are happy with it. That sounds heavy for a tripod setup, but that’s maybe a good thing if it’s always blowing and you can’t always sit

I got the Sirui T-024SK this past year and have loved it, comes in right at 3 lbs. I also use my trekking pole, not suitable for hours of glassing but very helpful when wanting a little more stability for quick glassing sessions.
