Does anyone for fact that the glass clarity is the exact same on the EL vs EL Range? I've found conflicting information.

I read somewhere that it's not as clear due to the range finding capabilities installed.

Also, I wish they could install the range finding capabilities in the NL line.

To my eyes, not nearly as clear. I have 12x50 el and the discounted 8.5x32 el and they are much clearer then the range versions I’ve borrowed. Everyone’s eyes are different

I have 8x42 Range TA's. They have the same glass as NL's according to my dealer, but not the same mirror or coatings. Or some similar story to that.

They are better than my 8.5x42 El's, but those are over 15 years old.

I was able to talk to Swarovski today after I posted this. There is a difference in the coating that flattens out the image. The Range does not have this.

It depends on which generation of EL and which generation of Range.

EL42 Binocular 1999-2009 and EL Range 42 2011-2021 have the same optical system
EL42 Binocular 2009-Present and EL Range TA 42 2021-Present have the same optical system

Depending on which gen EL you're comparing to which gen range is going to determine the answer to the question.

From what I’m aware, any range finder binoculars will have a specific coating to reflect range data to eye in at least one barrel. This coating will always degrade image quality to some extent.

According to my recent conversation with Swarovski, the difference in lenses between the EL and the EL Range, the newest EL Range does not have Swarobrite. This is what is used to help flatten the image and make the edges sharper on images.

That is completely wrong. The newest EL Range has Swarobright, because it's a Swarovision optical system. Even the older EL Range had Swarobright (and the original EL Binocular as well), it just didn't have the HD lensing/field flatteners to be Swarovision.

Sounds like whoever you talked to hadn't had their coffee yet.

Maybe I misunderstood him and he was referring to the lack of field flattening capabilities on the EL Range.

I have the EL Range TA’s (Newest version), and had the older version. The new version has Swarovision, and is optically identical to the SV EL’s (Newest generation). Very very difficult to distinguish with the NL Pure’s, optically.

They are sharp enough that I can’t imagine any scenario that they would not be nearly perfect for.

Current gen has field flatteners, that's also part of Swarovision. The pre-2021 EL Range did not have Swarovision, so it had Swarobright, but not field flatteners or HD Lensing.

I’ve owned all generations of both the EL Ranges and the last two of the EL’s all in 10x42.
In the field side by side to my eyes I did not see much of a difference neither did my 2 sons with their young adult eyes.
When rifle hunting I would always pick a bino with onboard RF as the view between the two is pretty much un-noticeable.

Not making anything up, just going by what Swarovski told me on the phone.
