Anyone here have and use both? I have a
VX-5HD but looking at a used Mark 4. In the same basic configuration. Looking at a Mark 4 in 4.5-14x50 and I have a VX5 3-15x44 and 5-20x52

1. Lowlight comparison
2. Glass quality/clarity/coatings
3. Reliability/tracking

Thanks

VX-5 is noticeably better.

2. Glass quality/clarity/coatings

VX-5 is noticeably better.

3. Reliability/tracking

Both are heavily compromised. Neither could be considered reliable or durable, however tihe 4.5-14x Mark 4 might be Leupold’s worst Mark 4.

This comparison was between a VX5 and Mark 5. I wonder if the Mark 4 and Mark 5 have a big difference in glass and coatings.

Yes there is a very noticeable difference in glass.

I have Mark 4, VX-5 and Mark 5 scopes.

Both the VX-5 and Mark 5 are noticeable brighter, clearer and less distortion at the edges over the Mark 4.

Mark 4 is old technology in both glass and turrets.

Of the 3 the Mark 5 turrets are the best but even it is questionable in zero retention and tracking accuracy.

I've had both scopes and the VX5hd is worlds apart.
The glass is better, the FOV is wider, the eyebox is less sensitive.

I had a VX5hd and a VX6.
The VX6 tracked well, in the VX5hd the clicks were quite calibrated correctly but tracking was reliable.

I would never buy a Mark 4 scope in 2023 unless it was for some sort of clone setup. The glass and features are lacking a long way behind the competition these days.

Thanks for all of the input. Gonna hold off on the Mark 4 based on everyone’s input. Now I’m considering a Leica Amplus 6 just because I want to try one.

Here I go down the hole again…

If you are looking to spend Mark 5 money, look into the Nightforce NXS or NX8.

I also hear good reports on the Trijicon Tenmile.

If you can find any the SWFA Super Sniper scopes are highly noted, although in my experience the glass will be subpar to the NF or Trijicon.
