My days as a backpacking instructor twenty years ago has led me astray. Went on two hunts with a Big Agnes Copper Spur HV1 this October in Colorado. It fits the bill for many things, but hunting ain’t one of them. Nor is winter camping. Time to upgrade my kit.

Ive read the threads about single pole type shelters with stoves. Seems like a no brainer. I only have one issue.

I noticed quite a few thieving critters to include mice, chipmunks, and squirrels in several spots where we camped. What’s the Rokslide treehouse answer to this issue. I’m not a fan of holes in my down bag and backpack.

They can chew through that Copper Spur quicker than they can your backpack. Rat traps is your answer lol

We put mousetraps with peanut butter in our wall tent or hot tent. A couple mouse traps weigh nothing and I’ve nearly always killed mice. Woke up to one chewing on my backpack 2 nights ago, went into town and bought mousetraps as I forgot to bring them, caught 2 mice the first night.

For whatever reason, I seems to attract mice whenever I'm in a canvas wall tent.

I spend about 20-30 days a year in a small tent or sleeping on the ground under stars and have never had an issue with mice that way. Not sure why that is my luck but I've just never had the issue with small tents or sleeping on the ground.

I think wall tents are just more prone to mice because they are large, heated well and you cook, eat, and depending on the area you’re in may be able to keep food inside. I’ve not had as many issues with regular tents or small hot tents either, but never keep food inside and don’t eat or cook in them unless conditions are very poor

Interesting, thanks. I think having a trap or two with some sort of bait (Peanut Butter, Starburst) is a solid idea. Also, as always, don’t cook where you sleep unless it’s absolutely necessary.
