GERBER EXO MOD CAPER

I bought one of these on an impulse yesterday. I figured I’ve spent $25 on dumber stuff. Cabelas has this one and a larger version. I opted for the small one.
I haven’t used it yet but so far this thing seems like a decent knife to throw in the pack and will probably do well on whitetail and smaller game. Not sure you’d want to use it for anything too hardcore.
This thing is really lightweight and feels pretty good to handle. The other really impressive thing is how well the sheath holds the knife. It’s borderline too tight but I’m thinking it will wear in with a little use.
I know Gerber doesn’t always have the best reputation but I’ve had plenty of luck with their stuff. Or you can say that I’ve never had one malfunction so I’ll give it a shot. If nothing else it’s a more affordable option than some of the others ultralight offerings

Been trying to decide on this knife combined with the larger one, or go with the Randy Newberg EBS set.....how are you liking this set? Looking for updates from anyone who has used them....thx

I’ve had chance to use it on three bears and a wolf so far. It does ok. Not as sharp out of the box as I hoped it would be. I’m not very good at sharpening knives either but I just bought a kit for that and that made it pretty easy to get a decent edge. I’d say all in all I like it. I’ll probably pick up the bigger one too just because. I can’t compare it to any of the more expensive models because this is my first caper knife. I’m sure it wouldn’t beat many of those expensive ones in a head to head but I’m a realist and I didn’t expect it to. Bottom line is it worked for me and I got my $25 out of it so far

Looks like a solid option. I just got a Cold Steel Bird and Game to try as my poor mans version of the Altitude. The plus side on the lower end stuff is that they are quickly resharpened with a basic and super lite sharpener. I somehow don't remember seeing these but they look like a solid option. And 3oz with a sheath isn't too shabby for more of a full body handle.

I had a chance to use it again Friday on a whitetail buck I shot that morning. That is what this thing was designed to do. It made quick and easy work of that compared to those big black bears. I used it to do a lot more than caping on that deer and it was a pretty good all around tool for the job. This EXO paired with my Gerber Gator folder with a gut hook is all I need for a deer. I'd say it has paid for itself so far this year and I haven't even really put any energy into sharpening it yet. Just a touch up after I was finished Friday.

I'm seriously considering picking up one of these to replace my Buck PakLite Caper for the added comfort of a more substantial grip. If it does well on yotes and rabbits I'd probably pick up the mid-sized knife and the saw too ('cause I've never used one on big game and I'm kinda curious).

My inner weight weenie is showing here, but any chance you could get the weight of knife+sheath?

I love mine. I got it because it fit perfect to the bottom of my bino harness. It replaced having a folder in my pocket on hunts.

how has that bird and game knife worked? any use on big game?
