I am curious of which of the two binoculars people would pick and why you would pick that particular binocular or binocular-ranging combo. Note that I am talking about the older generation of HD-Rs and not the HD-R 403s.

Thanks in advance.

I had the older HD-R and really liked the glass but the range button is on the left side. If you are a right handed archer then this causes issues holding your bow and ranging. I chose them over the Swaros because the Geovids have a much smaller minimum yardage reading. Again if you archery hunt this matters. I upgraded to the new Geovids last year and they are a step above anything out there. Effective horizontal yardage readings, crystal glass, and yardage button moved to the right side. I use swaro for my spotter and 15s but prefer geovids for my chest pair.

Optically the Swarovision are significantly better than the Leica HD-R, It really comes down to how you hunt.

Do you Archery hunt or rifle hunt more? I much prefer a separate range finder for archery hunting. For rifle hunting, I can go either way.
