Thanks for the information. To be clear, no never hunted elk. Mulies in AZ,ID is all the out west hunting I’ve done.

Montana and having the ability to go back out with the rifle might make sense but the big trip will be September with the bow.

Will probably be hitting SW Montana or SW Colorado.

They are more similar than different for hunting success and pressure.

I agree with this.
I've done both.
I'd go for MT if you're already 100% to draw, if not, go CO this year and MT next.
Or apply in CO as a back up if you're not 100% to draw MT, you won't lose anything if you turn back co tag since you have 0 point anyway

Don't discount the later part of archery in MT, it runs to Oct. 19 this year. I spotted multiple bulls the last day archery(oct 16 i think) a few years back. Snuck with 35 yds at last light on last day and my arrow hit a limb.
