I love this time of year. I go through all my equipment. I clean stuff, put stuff away, throw stuff away and buy new stuff. I find small things matter and I get down to the nitty gritty. I have a box of stuff going to the Salvation Army that I don't need or want. I cleaned and reorganized my stove kits and camping gear. I bought a gallon jug of Permethrin to treat all my tents, tarps and clothes. Got out my leather conditioner and boot wax and going through all my leather gear and boots for a cleaning and treatment. Even ordered new boot laces. Bought new Orvis waterproof chaps for small game hunting, some new Turtleskin snake gaiters, merino wool socks, a new Fenix headlamp and a Trangia 27 stove kit for car camping.

I bought a new Vizlsla pup 2 weeks ago to partner with my GSP and I cleaned and organized all my check cords, dog leads, tie out stakes, dog bowls, water containers and small game vests for summer training and fall hunting.

For some reason, I enjoy this annual gear ritual and I find it makes it a lot easier come fall, when I am confident in my equipment and I actually know where it is.

My favorite new piece of gear is my new Vizsla pup Goose.

If you don't already do it, verify that your boots are indeed waterproof. Remove the insoles and fill both boots with water to the top and let them soak. Look for water on the outside and bottom of the boots.
