Gear list evaluation for unguided NZ trip

Myself and three buddies are headed to the South Island of NZ for 2.5 weeks in late March. We'll be going unguided on public land for stag/thar/chamois. We plan on doing a 7 day helicopter fly in/out and spending the rest of the trip packing in on foot. I'm feeling pretty good about my current gear, but it never hurts to have someone else take a look. What do you think I should add, remove, change etc... The list includes what I am bringing to NZ, not everything that will be in my pack every day. That will be determined on a day by day basis.

Maybe a lightweight 10x10 tarp for shade - throwing extra gear under - emergency shelter if you aren't packing your tent up every day.

I like the tarp Idea. I thought about that a while ago, and must have forgot. I think at least one tarp between the bunch of us would be handy. I would be bringing my mountain shelter lt instead of the tent, but some areas may have a ton of bugs. I'll put up a trip recap once we get back. Shoot me a PM at that point and I'll help you out as best I can.

Yeah, I think you want to be prepared for bugs. I would spray a set of clothes prior to leaving with that permanone.

I went in March a few years ago with a friend to backpack and fish. Here are a few things I remember as it pertained to backpacking. We had the same idea as far as supplementing food from grocery stores there. All of the stores we went to had terrible options for lightweight packable camping meals, which we thought was odd considering how many backpackers pass through there. I would bring as much of your own food as your space and pack weight allows. Mountain house meals would have been luxurious compared to what we had to buy. Also, saw bug spray on your list, we didnt have many problems except when we were near the rivers. There are small black gnat things that will ruin your day. Repellent didnt work, only clothing would stop them, wished I had brought some kind of gloves. I also brought a small usb/micro usb solar charger that came in very handy and i highly recommend bringing something similar. Have fun!
