Let's hear some gear hacks/tips/shortcuts that help save money and just generally make life easier. Inflation and shortages are a B-word right now, so I'm looking to cut costs anyway I can. Here are a few of mine:

I go to Ross, Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack, or any other surplus clothing store. You can usually find good prices on athletic wear (especially base layers) from Under Armour, Adidas, Etc. Just as good as the hunting brand clothes if you ask me, at a fraction of the cost.

Also, I use toiletry bags, pencil cases, and things like that for about $5 to keep things organized in my pack.

Sit on a log and get pine sap on your pants/shirt? Pour some germ-x on them, throw them in the washer, and it comes right off.

Shoestrings from old shoes have a lot of uses as well.

Money saving life hack would be stay away from the classified section here!

On a serious note I do my own taxidermy work to save money.

I’m general I started avoiding most “hunting” companies as it turns out your paying a premium for that gear when you can get the same stuff from other outdoor companies.

I am pretty lucky to have an outdoor consignment store in town. With a little work and consistency, a guy can find some pretty good deals.

Which part? Stay away from The classifieds unless you are looking for something specific otherwise you get tempted by way too many gadgets you don’t actually need.

I taught myself to do my own euro mounts and tan my own hides. I’ve also attempted shoulder mounts but haven’t taken the full jump into those yet.

Stay away from hunting gear companies. Instead of a KUIU hunting puffy you can get a very comparable puffy from various other companies for much less as an example.

Much appreciated!

Id love some guidance on euro mounts. No interest in full taxidermy. Cant justify it. Then again I havent killed anything worthy of it!
