Gear failed, shooting mat and suppressor cover

About 10 years ago I bought a Cabelas shooting brand mat. Now that I'm shooting more every range trip shooting prone leaves my left elbow missing a chunk of skin! They used some rubber crap on the top side. Then in the sun it gets hot as well. It's now in the dumpster in the ally. Any good suggestions for a replacement? I don't go to an actual range just some public north of town. So a mat is pretty important.

My main can is an ultra 7. I've got an Armageddon Gear cover and I'm pretty sure it's the right size for the can. But I can't get it tight enough! Ha I shot it off the gun a couple times today!

Any others that fit the Ultra 7 better?

For early morning shoots where it’s normally 100-200 hunting simulated shots or quick 100 yard range work I just use a regular Walmart mat and then a beanie hat or piece of cardboard where my right elbow lands for prone work.




For full day, I’m gonna be on a mat for hours and hours, I’ll break out the heavy duty mat that is by far the best I’ve used. Recommend to me by @Formidilosus

Pricey, but it’s the bees knees as far as shooting mats go.

Recently picked up a LS Wild suppressor cover for my Resilient Jolene S from @hereinaz and wanted say a quick kudos. It’s a super light, streamlined cover which I like a lot. Had it out today and after about 10 rounds out of a 22-250, the can was hotter than hell but zero mirage issues through the scope were visible. They seem to be a really solid setup with no slippage through strings of fire. Being made in the USA is the biggest bonus, to me. I’ll be ordering more!

I never really found a suppressor cover that functioned properly so I always used vet wrap.

I switched to these this spring and they have been excellent.

As others said LS Wild cover for light weight. A more robust solution is Can Chaps. Different use cases IMO.

I’m still on the hunt for a shooting mat solution. Usually because I decide I don’t “need” an upgrade & keep putting it off.

I also enjoy my LS wild covers. They aren’t for high volume sessions, but there’s no reason to take them off if you’re headed out on a hunt. So let those factors help you decide.

A tarp and packing blanket gets a lot of use when I go out with a few shooters.

I think I have the same mat you threw away, lol. I put something over it when hot, and always wear long sleeves so the rubber didn’t bother. But, a beanie or extra shooting bag often gets put under an elbow.

Also, I quit shooting prone as much and practice off my tripod as much as possible.

Had a Midway mat for years that’s been fine. Think half the field used it to check zero and get power factor at the Carbon Hill NRL match last month and it still looks new.

For covers, LS Wild if weight matters. If not, Can Chaps. No reason for anything else IMO.

I used my LS Wild cover for the Shoot2hunt school, so roughly 1,000 rounds over 5 days and it held up just fine. Mostly shot in 10 round groups. I don’t know how it would fair on an AR doing a 30 round mag dump.
