What are the best gators I am looking for some adjustable enough to go over heavier pants and then still fit next layer in middle of day when heavy pants come off
will wear bottom layer and then sometime lighter pants then heavy over that when in boat. But even if don't wear lighter layer for mid day. My regular gators won't fit over heavier pants.Don't know if the L/XL will tighten down enough if not wearing heavy pants.
I’ve had good luck with Outdoor Research Crocodiles—they’re tough, fully adjustable, and cinch down well over bulky winter pants but still tighten enough when you’re down to lighter layers.
If you prefer something a bit lighter, OR Verglas or Black Diamond FrontPoint are also solid and handle the “heavy-to-light” switch nicely.
OP I have 3 pairs of brand new Kenetrek gaiters (you don't want gators on your legs) that I bought for my sons and they never used them that I'd part with if you're looking to save over new. I really like my First Lite gaiters, wife has a set also and she likes them and I have a shorter set of Kenetrek that work well when I don't need as much coverage.
edit: Kryptek gaiters on camofire for $30 right now.
If you need good ones that will outlast you then get ones from mountaineering brands. If you need ones that are camo then get ones from hunting gear industry. But like a ton of outdoor gear nowadays, the hunting gear industry is just reinventing gear and making design mistakes that were perfected a long time ago by these legacy big name outdoor gear brands.
I dont exactly enjoy going into a pachouli stinkin granola eater teva sandal wearer REI store but a ton of that stuff is better quality and more functional than the stuff at Cabelas. Its just not in camo patterns. A bunch of that stuff is on ebay cheap.
