garming gps

I am looking to get a new Garmin gps sometime soon and was hoping that you guys could point me in the right direction. I've been looking at the Garmin Oregon 450 and 650 cant decide which one to get. also glanced at the monterra. I like that the monterra uses the android stuff since that's what I am used to. can any one help me out here? pros and cons to them? thanks

honestly im not 100% sure. this is my first gps. I know I want touch screen and the ability to use the xmaps

Have you entertained the idea of a Rino 650? It would be capable of both of the things you want and if you hunt with a buddy that has one, it can make your life a lot easier. I'd give one a look!

I will defiantly take a look at the rino. I will get with my buddies and see what they have. If they have the rino than that makes sense.

I was in your position and just picked up a Garmin Oregon 600. I've read that the 600 screen is that much better than the previous versions in sunlight. The 650 has a camera which isn't great, so I opted out of that.

I would have bought the Rino if my buddy would buy one but every review said it isn't the best gps or the best radio but a great mix if you entire party has them.

If you don't mind eBay you can find a deal on the Oregon. I paid $230 for a new unit without the box.

I know you’re looking for a touch screen GPS but the tried and true style of the 64's are a good unit. I still use their predecessor 60CSX and now use a 62 too. (64 isn't much different than the 62).

These can also use 'chip' cards also. Screen might not be as large as the touch screens but I do know they can get a signal pretty well

This. Except I have the etrex 20. I find touch screens to be difficult in the rain. Small, lightweight, can upload color aerials, topos, routes,etc.

I cant help you with choice - I have the 64ST because I did not want the touchscreen but Cabelas has a pretty good sale on the Oregon 650 and the Montana 680 through July 4.

Garmin has all but shuttered the doors on their handheld gps division. Nothing new in the last 2 years and what was new and worthwhile, the Montera w/Android OS, they don't even list.
