Leaving for a little backpacking/scouting trip and would like to reactivate my inreach but apparently Garmin is so sideways they can’t even get phone lines or emails to work much less activate an inreach..

To be fair they’ve been on my shit list since they purchased tri tronics and shortly after they couldn’t offer a replacement part for my $500 dog collar. That got me to purchase one of their $500 dog collars that ended up being a POS.

Damn, sounds like they are experiencing what the rest of the world is. Headed right down the toilet, sorry to hear this ,can’t really believe something like this should ever happen , peoples lives could depend on some of that stuff. But I guess not all lives matter any more anyway. The only thing that matters any more is how deep we can get in each other’s pockets. Hope they get their s it together, a lot of people depend on this stuff.

It’s my understanding that Garmin got hacked and their whole system is down while they put things back together. Sounds like it will be a couple days at best.

Yep just checked and my connect is down. Every time I have needed Cs which I caused my self they have treated me good from my watches to in reach and dog collar. Rack this one up to shit happens. I always activate my Inreach a few weeks early just for that scenario

I have a watch from them and this is the first problem I have had. Sometimes no matter what you do to prevent it stuff happens. I doubt it is because they are negligent.

Well-- I can tell you that Garmin's tech support has been fabulous when I needed it. USA folks, well trained and efficient.

First World Problems- they'll be back on-line and your scouting trip will go well.

I think your headline is a little overblown.

My inReach is still functioning fine. I keep my subscription active on the cheapest plan 365 just so I don’t have to potentially deal with an issue activating.

I also use it year round so it’s worth it to me.

The satellite network the inReach uses isn’t down, their systems are down at their HQ it sounds like.

I just changed to doing this as well last month, I can afford $12 a month to be able to use it when needed without having to reactivate.

Mine stays active all year as well, not because of something like this but now I have another reason. My friend called me yesterday when he was trying to set his new one up, same issue as noted above. I pay so little for my cell phone plan that leaving the inreach on is equal to or less than what most people pay monthly for their phone.

They got hacked. More than that, it's obvious they got hacked, was demanded to pay a ransom, and told the hackers to eat shit. I can deal with an outage for a couple days over that.

Same thing happened to the company I work for, at the end of our biggest month of the year. Pretty much worse case scenario...We had the same response as well.
We were down for 2-3 weeks, had to rebuild the entire system/networks.

Yeah, I've got access to the explore website again. The Earthmate App is still giving problems though.

The ransom demand is reported to be $10M. It sucks but I can wait to update my devices and have no issue with Garmin's response.

I've been happy with their customer service for several years now. Good for them for standing up to the scum.

Latest Joy: my InReach is not sending out messages. Based on previous issues I'm assuming the firmware needs to be updated. How do you update firmware? well you need to download their App to a computer and sync that to your inreach. Of course my work computer doesn't allow such apps to be added.

So I call customer support to get a message "Your estimated wait time is over 1 hour".

I'll give them some slack, i could see the wildfires causing some additional strain on their resources. Doesn't mean it's not frustrating.
