Garmin how to

So what’s the general use of your garmin when hunting the backcountry. In the past I’ve dropped a pin and turned the unit off. When I’m ready to return I just power up and navigate back to the pin. I’m planning some pretty big hunts this year and would love some info/knowledge of best things that work for all. Thanks in advance oh yeah I plan on purchasing the on-x maps card for Colorado
