I'm still not a fan of using a constant use item that eats batteries, gps, and a life saving device in one. I like that my inreach is a communication tool only as it has great battery life. I also don't see how they can maintain current battery life of both and make a unit that weighs less then two separate units.
As stated above battery life. My biggest issue with electronics in the backcountry is the batteries that go with them. If someone constantly uses a GPS all day they will use a set of batteries a day on most units. I usually set the truck and camp and leave the GPS off the rest of the time. My in reach I can leave on 4 days and send a few texts a day and the battery will last. I can get even more if I manually check messages. So question....why wouldn't someone want one of these other than price concerns if those are a concern???
