Well I decided I wanted to hunt the Fabled Migrating Yellowstone Elk heard this season, before the wolves do truly wipe the entire herd out. I have a 313-50 tag and would love to here from anyone that has hunted it before. I really dont want to hire a outfitter but am not putting that to the way side either and much of the land is private...... Has anyone done this hunt on a DIY before with success. I will likely hunt as late in the Season into Novemeber with rifle in tow. This will be a solo adventure, with the possiblity of my Camera Man Aron S taggin along ;)... PM me or post away lets chat about this hunt! Also willing to exchange info for other areas of Montana, Wyoming, or Idaho that I have had success in. Thanks guys

Although you probably already know this, it's not really a late migration hunt unless some snow dumps hard late in the season. It rarely happens. It happed in 2010 and a ton of great bulls were killed. I saw a handful of 350+ bulls killed in 20 minutes, right along the Jardine road. My girlfriend's father killed a 397 within sight of town. The true late season migration hunts (Jan-March) ended 5-6 years back due to the numbers dropping rapidly due to predators and overharvest in the late 90s and first have of the 2000s. I've hunted over a dozen late bull hunts and around that many cow hunts during the late season. I've been over there during the general as well. Regardless of what you'll hear, the wolves haven't got them all. The hunting is different, but still great. Even though there's some serious action at times in the Deckard and Jardine area, it can be a circus. The 313-50 permit requirement is pretty new and might limit the activity. I think you've got a good permit. Good luck!

Unless you get real heavy snow it will not be a migration hunt. There will still be some elk on the public land(certainly enough to make it worth your while) but you will need to hunt hard and hunt smart. I love the terrain there, but prefer to hunt elsewhere these days.

Got the same tag as Bearhunter did but for this season and have only hunted around Dome Mt in 313 and that is it. I don't mind putting the miles on the boots and know this country is steep so bring on your worst ideas for this area :)
I know that the migration most likely will not happen for a while but there must be some resident elk hanging out and I would sure love to stalk one with my bow.
I have not been hunting for very long but have trekked a ton of Region 3 and would be happy to share my observations.
Kind regards,
Ted
