Game Wardens

I was on a hunting trip with a group of them ( not my idea )

One shot a spike buck ( not legal )

One shot a hen pheasant.

I was not impressed to say the least

One was a really great guy, he was pretty embarrassed by the others

I've spent a good bit of time with the enforcement guys and they're not the touchy feely type. I've never been ticketed but I have seen some very "entrapment" type situations and some great lessons.

The wardens job is to enforce wildlife and all other laws. They are supposed to know the latest codes inside the 200 pages of sportsman's regulations. I haven't seen a hunter that knows all of the codes by heart. I do wish they'd spend more time grabbing guys like the methow mulie molester than measuring your 396 in/sq vest that was 413 in/sq before it got washed.
There’s someone in the methow molesting muleys? Is it one of those blue haired coasties that hang out in Winthrop?

Very hard to thank someone when your pissed off at them for catching you in the act.....They would really have to work some magic to smooth that over.......

The whole Prius owners molesting muleys......WOW!

That’s why they drive Prius’s. They can sneak really close to a big eared deer hahaha

Another thing about those warden episodes on TV is how many people they stop that have no license, no ID, no money, no phone, no credit card, no nothing, but they drove some place to fish or hunt. How can you leave the house like that.

I don't understand getting angry for getting caught doing something that you know is wrong. I would apologize. Getting harassed doing nothing wrong is a little different and is typically my experience. License checks, tackle box checks, vehicle search at check points. All violations of the Constitution.

Have you seen wardens actually try to measure (or even criticize the amount of sqin area of) a blaze vest?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a warden even comment on blaze orange before (outside of blatant violations like not wearing it, or wearing blaze “camo” when it should be solid blaze orange).

Heck, at least two of my encounters with wardens in Colorado were as I was getting back in my truck - still on public land, rifle unloaded, I don’t have my blaze on anymore, and they’ve never said anything.

I had ran into our local warden the other day coming out of the woods from turkey hunting, talked about what we saw and I offered him a parting hug after mentioning I was flicking ticks off my clothes all afternoon, chased him back to his truck and everything!

When I lived in California we would hunt both the California side of the Colorado river and the AZ side for Quail on opening day. After we limited out in California we would go hunt along the river in AZ. We had resident license's for California and a non-resident AZ 1 day hunting license.

We were stopped by California DFG wardens while hunting on the California side. We had not limited out yet and all was good. We finished hunting in California and all had our limits of quail. We stashed our Californa shot quail in our coolers and went to AZ to legally hunt there for the rest of the day.

This is where things get interesting. While hunting in AZ the same California DFG wardens came across the boarder and checked us again. We now had birds in our possession that we had legally shot in AZ. Now the birds we had shot in AZ were in our hunting vest and were not anywhere near the California birds in the coolers in our vehicles. The California wardens then made us show them the birds we had shot in California. We did and that is when they said we were over limits. No amount of arguing with these wardens was going to convince them were legally hunting in Az and had a right to a legal limit of birds from both states on opening day. Well they wrote us all tickets for over limits of birds and took all the birds from both states.
We had legal limits of birds from California and were hopeful to get legal limits from AZ too.

We ended up in court in Az as that is where the tickets were issued. The Califonia DFG lawyers tried to get the case moved to California but the DA nor the judge in AZ were playing that game.

The judge in AZ courtroom asked the California wardens where we were when they cited us for the alleged hunting violations. When they finally admitted they were on AZ soil he dismissed the case. They tried to argue that they had no idea which birds we had shot in Califonia. So they figured all the birds we had in possession in including our vests and in our cars were shot in California.

He told them to return all birds and pay all our exspenses including court, travel, and lodging. He also proceeded to chew them out for such a blatant abuse of power, and told them to never cross over the Az border in a legal capacity again.

I like it

I have had one good encounter in 25 years it was yesterday fishing. Easy peasy. Outside of that I’ve been wrote 44 tickets over the years. Yes I know the comments are coming. Long story short. Lots of money spent on a big bear hunter shake down operation. 36 state 8 federal charges. Long story short. After having to drop 43 charges due to lack of evidence. They tried one. Three day trial and much to there dismay I wasn’t even in the same region of the state for that ticket. Phone records put me four hours away. I left court that day innocent and they left with a warning from the judge to leave me alone. Come to find out they had been on this case for 2 years and wrote the tickets 20 minutes before statute of limitations run out. 5 years later. I hadn’t owned a dog in 4 years. I was blocked in my parents driveway picking up my son by three black SUVs. Hadn’t hunted a bear in 4 years. Someone name dropped me. So 2 hours later my dad runs them off. 30 minutes after that they got slapped with a harassment suite. Especially considering one of the ones there wasn’t supposed to be near me was in the driveway. None of the officers in either case work this area since then. Some are at a desk and others forced to retire. Fast forward 13 years. Hunting down east. Get stopped by two pickups 4 game wardens. Wanted to see that we had tagged the two deer my son shot. As he has his app open and both tags visible. I am taken out of the truck. My truck is searched with my dad and son in it. Took my pistol. Took it apart. Then finally as my son continues to tell the officer here are the tags and they ignore him finally one looks. Says oh they are good then leave me on the side of the road with a stripped truck and pistol in pieces. So I have zero use for them in our state. I was never rude or disrespectful just apparently easily hated. Heck I got my first round of tickets by being summoned to the sheriff’s office and handed a stack of tickets. So those shows are completely not how they operate

I've had my truck tossed and all my guns with me looked at as well as serial numbers taken. The warden accused me of shooting pigs and leaving them lay lie. I explained to him I don't care about pigs and would never stir up my deer hunt. He kept going and going, threatening. Finally the ranch foreman came down and told him I was legit to leave me alone. He didn't say anything else, just got in his truck and drove off. He was not nice.
