Mike, You don't have to keep the quarters in separate bags, BUT you do have to separate the quarters when they are hanging or laid out to cool. Balled up blobs of meat are spoilage bombs. For two deer, I would take 4 quarter bags and one bag for the loose meat. So five bags in total.

If you might need to cape the deer, then a bag each for the capes. Lay the capes out to cool/dry. The only time a cape should be in the bag is during transport and once it is cooled and stowed in an iced down cooler.

I've used the Blackovis bags for the last couple seasons. Packed out 4 elk, and 2 deer with them. Just spray them down after and throw them in the wash and they are good to go again. Packs down really small too

I've used the same caribou game bags over and over for many years now. The same goes for the Kuiu bags. They cost a lot but they protect your meet and they can be washed an reused for years to come.

I would spend the 70 for some good synthetic bags. I just picked up a Wapiti pack from Caribou Gear for this season. I have used the Alaska game bag, cheese cloth type, before and been fine but after feeling the Caribou bags I can’t believe I didn’t buy them sooner.
70 bucks is a decent amount of change but these things look and feel indestructible.
Will find out if they were worth it first hand though in the seasons to come.

Black Ovis, regularly on Camofire for sure. They look suspiciously like Caribou game bags.

I use black ovis, pillow cases and even trash bags when hauling meet. Pillow cases get a slit in the hem and parachord run through to make a cinch. The only problem I’ve had with the black ovis is that the cinch locks have been broken in the washing machine. I would probably just spay them off or hand wash.... always in cold water. Hot water sets blood stains.

Trash bags can keep your pack from getting blood all over it.

I usually hunt once a month and my game bags get a lot of use.

If you're looking for economical the Alaska Game bags are a good choice. You can wash and re-use them for years.

After using blackovis, allen, caribou, and TAG bags I have it dialed down to the TAG bags. They are tough, reusable, and pack down smaller than the others. 5 TAG bags take up the same space as one Allen.
