Galvanized metal for stove?

I have seen a few youtube videos where people built some portable stoves out of galvanized sheet metal made for furnace housing/fittings. I know that when welding galvanized metal you need plenty of ventilation to keep form getting the toxic fumes. my question is will a wood fire get hot enough to cause the toxic vapors (apparently over 1600 degrees)?

Yes it will. You would need to burn it in before use. Get it running super hot while not in a shelter. But once the galvanization burns off, it will likely rust very quickly. High heat increases the rate of oxidation.

Its painful to pay for a stove but worth it imo.

I sure hope so, I have galvanized stove pipe that I use for my base camp tent stove. At home I build a really hot fire to burn it in before use. I can get it red hot if I want to

Had a sheep herder fold-up stove in wall tent for years, that was galvanized. As stated above first burns should be outside. Did not notice much rust, even using it out side for just sitting around.
