Free Turkeys - Leavenworth

Is it really poaching if it’s an introduced, non-native species that is tenfold over population goals and causes massive amounts of crop and livestock damage per year?

Lemme know what crops and livestock around Leavenworth the turkeys are damaging. The Central WA pop is way different than the NE pop.

Signed a public land owner who thoroughly enjoys his local turkey flock.

Also, yes, its still poaching.

Nothing to add, but I never realized there’s that many turkeys up there!!! Thought you guys were pulling my leg until someone posted the Regulations with up to 7 turkeys!! Crazy.

Down here, I’m lucky to see a handful of turkeys on my entire hunt. lol

What kills them? Around here it's usually cars, 10-22's and occasionally a bobcat.

They literally are unstoppable.

You can shoot 7 a year in the NE part of the state where they are a "problem", 6 in the rest of the NE. If the landowners want them gone it's as easy as letting people on their land to shoot them.

They come in flocks of 50 to several hundred. You'll need the whole confederate army firing line to even make a dent in one flock.....and we have 27 million flocks.

Probably the occasional car...I'm no expert but i think it is coyotes and bobcats after they're born and other animals like raccoons/foxes finding their eggs.

The wretched things are really into pears and apples. They beat the hell out of the tree and then eat what falls. 20241004_140830.jpg

I'm surrounded by pear orchards where I live currently. Literally surrounded. Family friends with Preys orchard too. Never once heard that about the local birds here. We don't have near the population in Central WA like you guys do in the East. Our whole pear crop was on the ground this year due to frost ring and the turkeys didn't touch them. I was even dumping pears on my property for the deer and the turkeys walked right by them everytime. They eat the shit out of the bugs in the orchards around here.

You know what the orchardists DO want shot around here? The Elk. They destroy the orchards. Thats why the late Peshastin tag was added a couple years ago. They're fun to spot and watch though.

I drew the Malaga any elk tag the first year of the tag debacle when outdoor central took over and lost it to a Westside elk tag in north river. That was literally the only bull tag I've ever drawn and been trying since 93.

The turkey in the picture along with the ones under the tree just beat the apples down and are carrying one and rolling another across the yard.
