I'm looking for a pack that won't break the bank. It needs to be capable of holding 5 days of gear and if it was versatile and could be a day pack thats a plus. I was thinking about a pack frame like Eberlestock f1 mainframe or other pack frame with one of my many military duffel bags strapped on. I mean, this is basically the whole idea behind the mainframe or Kifaru nomad but cheaper. Has any one tried this before? Any pictures? I'm also keeping an eye out for any used packs here.

Look into a mystery ranch crew cab or mule. They can be had on a NICE frame pretty cheap. I used one for a while and they are fine. The pass in the ass factor is a little high loading and unloading and they can shift around a bit if not strapped well.

I did this all the time when I used a MR crew cab. I had to add load lifters to the frame to make it a good hauler though. I use a Seek Outside now. Way more comfortable.

I have a couple external frames as I’m not a fan of the internals.

I have the F1, like it with a scabbard first a day pack as it’s compact. 5 day pack not so much.

I bought a Barney’s frame and it can easily carry double the Mainframe comfortably. I still love the small one for a few things but the Barney’s is where it’s at if you want a frame. I added 3 straps across the frame and it’s super fast to go from a cooler, moose quarter, to bag.

You can find them in the $200 range used, they were $279 new without the expensive bag awhile back.

I have yet to be begin to procrastinate.
